Apple has suffered its first large-scale attack from hackers.

It was forced to remove 300 Chinese apps from its App Store after they were found to contain malicious software.

The company disclosed the attack after several cyber security firms reported finding a malicious programme dubbed "XcodeGhost" that was embedded in hundreds of legitimate Chinese apps.

Chinese media reported companies affected included banks, an airline and a popular music service.
