South Carolina prosecutors will reportedly seek the death penalty for the 21-year-old man accused of shooting dead nine African-Americans at a Charleston church in June.
Dylann Roof, a white man, is charged with murder in connection with the multiple killings at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, which he reportedly hoped would trigger a race war. He also faces three attempted murder charges.
"This was the ultimate crime, and justice from our state calls for the ultimate punishment," prosecutor Scarlett Wilson told US media in a press conference on Thursday (local time).
