Residents in Queensland have had a slithery reminder to always check the toilet before sitting down, after a tradesman found a massive python coiled in a bowl.

The three-metre long snake was found inside the downstairs toilet of a Mount Stewart property in Townsville, reports 7 News.

The tradesman who made the discovery called in local snake catcher Elliot Budd, who took a photo of the python.

But when Mr Budd tried to pull the snake out, it slithered down into the toilet.

The tradesmen working on the property had to lift the toilet so Mr Budd could grab onto the snake and pull it out.

Mr Budd told the Daily Mail the snake was probably looking for water due to recent hot weather.

He released the python in nearby bush land.
