Protesters supporting a revolt by detainees being held on Christmas Island have attempted to enter Australia's Consulate-General in Auckland.
Around 15-20 protesters entered the reception area of the building that houses the mission in the heart of the city today, but could not gain access to their offices on the seventh floor.
One of the protest group, made up of members of Global Peace and Justice Auckland and the Unite union, had been allowed to hand over a letter addressed to Australian High Commissioner Michael Potts but when she entered the building the others followed.
They were ushered out by security after a brief occupation of the atrium.
The protests come after Australian authorities quelled a two-day riot at the detention centre which houses refugees and New Zealanders with a criminal history awaiting deportation.
