Father of Christmas Island detainee fears for son

A Kiwi man allegedly involved in the Christmas Island riots fears he won't get to see his young children grow up.

Czarion Strang, 21, is expected to be charged over the detention centre riots.

He was one of seven Kiwi prisoners flown off the island on Wednesday and is now in a maximum security facility in Perth.

His father Keith says the ordeal has taken a toll on his son.

"He's been going through hell now, not really wanting to talk too much about his kids because it just breaks him up."

Strang served time for assault after he was involved in a bar fight.

His father says guards at Christmas Island beat him badly - and he's trying to raise money to help his son fight any new charges.
