There's "no doubt" New Zealand's terrorism threat level will be discussed following the attacks in Paris, says Deputy Prime Minister Bill English.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks on Saturday (NZ time) in which more than 130 people were killed and 350 injured.

Mr English says New Zealand's terrorism threat level was raised to low last year, but it is "always under review".

"Until now, at least, there didn't seem to be a reason to raise that security threat level, but no doubt that's going to be discussed extensively over the next few weeks," he told the Paul Henry programme this morning.
