Good Samaritan returns lost passport, $5k at Lake Pukaki

An Argentine visitor may be a bit blue while reflecting on the scenery at Lake Pukaki after losing his passport and wallet stuffed with cash at the popular tourist spot.

A good Samaritan found the wallet containing Tomas Arce's passport, bank cards and travel tickets, along with more than $5000 worth of Argentine pesos and US dollars floating around the air yesterday.

The man turned it into local police.

"What we think happened is that he's left it on the roof of a vehicle at a viewing point and as the vehicle's pulled out it's fallen off the roof," Constable Ben Grant told Fairfax Media.

Mr Acre is due to fly out of New Zealand in mid-January and the Argentinian Embassy has been notified.
