An investigation is underway after a fake bomb made of cardboard, paper and a timer forced an Air France jet to make an emergency landing in Kenya.

The Boeing 777 was flying from Mauritius to Paris with 460 passengers on board when the hoax object was discovered making a ticking noise in the toilet.

Kenyan Interior Minister Joseph Nkaissery has initiated an investigation with both French and Mauiritian authorities.

"The investigation is continuing. A few passengers of concern are being interrogated to find out exactly what has caused this," he says.

Kenyan police describe the device as looking like a cardboard box mounted with a stopwatch.
