Tree thieves steal Christmas cheer

The festive season is meant to be a time of giving, but for three thieves in Manchester it was all about taking. The trio stole nearly 200 Christmas trees from a shop.

CCTV footage from the back of the shop shows the group loading the trees into the back of a white van.

UK correspondent Dan Whitehead told the Paul Henry programme the shopkeeper had been left "heartbroken".

The grinches haven't been nabbed yet, and there are reports the trees are being sold in a nearby town.

The theft, worth around NZD$13,500, has left the shop owner fearing his customers' Christmases will be ruined.

But police say the thieves have done more than that – they've put the man's business in jeopardy.
