Fugitive drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman who escaped from a maximum security prison seven months ago has been apprehended, according to an announcement from Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.
Associated Press is reporting Guzman was taken into custody following a shootout with marines, in Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
Five people were killed in the clash, and one marine sustained injuries.
According to a statement, the Mexican Navy said marines had acted on a tip-off and raided a home in Los Mochis.
Six others were arrested in the raid.
Two armoured vehicles, nine guns and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher were also seized at the property.
