A teen, whose father mistook him for an intruder, has been shot and killed in Cincinnati.

The Washington Post are reporting that the man thought his son had gone to school, but the 14-year-old went back home.

The father heard noise in the basement, grabbed his gun, got spooked and fired his weapon - striking the teen in the neck.

The boy was transported to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where he died.

Cincinnati police said the father is cooperating with a police investigation.

No further information has been released.
