The man who stabbed an innocent Melbourne school girl 49 times has been sentenced to life behind bars.

Sean Price randomly attacked 17-year-old Masa Vukotic at a park near her Doncaster home a year ago.

At the time of Price’s arrest, he told police he had wanted to stab someone because, “I just hated society.”

Price said he went to the park looking for someone to stab when he saw Ms Vukotic.

The Age newspaper reports Price told police, "This chick was on the other side of the road ... she's like started talking to a bird like f---ing Snow White.”

Price stabbed the school girl 49 times.

He then went on to choke a woman while raping her in a book shop.

The 32-year-old handed himself in and pleaded guilty to the charges.

The sentencing judge said Price had a high risk of re-offending and sentenced him to life with a minimum non-parole period of 38 years.

Price was on supervised bail when he committed the crime. The case prompted a review of the Victorian justice system.
