A New Zealand fraudster who lied about having a lucrative job for actor Russell Crowe when making bogus credit card applications has pleaded guilty to several charges.

Paul Bennett was arrested aboard a $140,000 yacht last February while it was moored near Cowan Creek on the Hawkesbury River, 50km north of Sydney.

Bennett has pleaded guilty to four counts of obtaining money by deception, with Sydney's District Court on Wednesday (local time) hearing he had falsely claimed to be working for Crowe on a $120,000 annual salary during credit card applications in NSW in 2001.
