Polar medal for New Zealander Agnieszka Fryckowska

Kiwi Agnieszka Fryckowska has been awarded the Polar Medal by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

She received the medal for her work in Antarctica for the British Antarctic Survey, which she joined in 2004.

The UK-based New Zealander started as a meteorologist and was winter station leader at Halley V station in 2007.

She is now training to be a pilot.

The list of previous recipients includes Sir Ernest Shackleton and New Zealand's Sir Edmund Hillary.
