Passengers were injured during a "brief moment of severe turbulence" on a Malaysia Airlines international flight from London to Kuala Lumpur overnight.

Flight MH1, which had 378 passengers and crew, hit turbulence over the Bay of Bengal on Sunday (local time), Reuters reports.

Harith Azman, who was on the flight, posted photos on Facebook of the aftermath.

A "small number" of passengers and crew on the Airbus A380 received minor injuries and were treated by medical officers when the plane landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport..

In a statement, the airline says the plane landed in Kuala Lumpur on time, and apologised for the inconvenience caused "by this weather event which was entirely beyond our control".
