Two people have died and seven others are injured after a gunman opened fire at a bar in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.

Areas of the city have been cordoned off, and security forces have launched a manhunt for the gunman, BBC reports.

The attack happened on Dizengoff St in the city centre.

Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld told the BBC it is unclear if the shooting was a terrorist attack or criminal-related.

He says four of those who were wounded suffer serious injuries, and because undercover units and counter-terrorism units were working in different areas of Tel Aviv, there was now warning of the attack.

Israeli media report the attacker has been identified as an Israeli Arab from the northern part of the city.
