A 90-year-old German gymnast has carried out a tandem parachute jump in honour of Britain's Queen Elizabeth, who also turned 90 this year.

Johanna Quaas, who jumped attached to an instructor, said she wanted to finish what the monarch had started during the London Olympic Games.

The Queen appeared with James Bond actor Daniel Craig in a film during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Games.

At the end of the clip, the monarch appeared to jump out of a helicopter with the secret agent, to float down into the Olympic Stadium.

Quaas had announced her intention to jump on the Queen's birthday, 21 April.

Repeating what she said at the time, the parachutist on Sunday said her jump would show what people of her age were still capable of.

The German is no stranger to hitting the headlines -- she made it into the Guinness World Records book as the world's oldest active gymnast in 2012.
