A robot which escaped captivity by wandering out the open door of a research lab has put a stop to traffic on a busy street in Russia.
Known as Promobot, the robot is an intelligent machine designed to work in customer relations and is programmed to interact realistically with people, and avoid obstacles.
However, when a staff member at the research lab housing the robot left a gate ajar, Promobot spotted its opportunity to make a break -- except it only made it halfway across the road outside the facility before its batteries died.
Co-founder of the company that invented the robot, Oleg Kivokurtsev, said everyone at the facility felt bad that the robot had created congestion -- though he was relieved Promobot was treated kindly by passers-by.
"I should say that drivers were very nice and did not swear at the machine," he said.
