Several people were badly injured when a freight train crashed into a bus in Germany on Wednesday.

The bus was standing still on the track when the train smashed into its back at around 8:15am (local time) in Osnabrück, according to local media.

At least nine people were injured, two of them seriously, police told Spiegel Online. Emergency services are at the scene and the two people seriously injured have been taken to hospital.

It was initially believed the bus was a school bus, however it's now thought to have been a rail replacement service.
