Police have released the names of two men whose bodies were recovered after a fatal fishing trip southeast of Hobart, as the search continues for their mates who are presumed dead.

They were Magnus Julian Ritter, 34, and Luke William Davies, 32, both of suburban Hobart.

The pair were part of a foursome - along with a 26-year-old Hobart man and a New Zealander aged 35 - who launched a runabout from a Cremorne beach on Sunday and failed to return as planned.

The bodies of Mr Ritter, a personal trainer, and Mr Davies, were recovered on Monday about 3km apart.

One of the men had suffered a head injury, police say.

On Wednesday more than five vessels and a search and rescue helicopter continued to scour waters for the missing men and the five-metre fibreglass boat.

Police hold little hope of finding the pair alive based on weather conditions and water temperatures.
