A single mum in Texas decided to dress as a dad in order to attend her son's "Donuts with Dad" school event.

Yevette Vasquez of Fort Worth rocked the look with a baseball cap, plaid shirt, fake moustache and dash of cologne so her son, Elijah, wouldn't be left out at the event.

"It's the first time I've dressed as a man," Ms Vasquez told CNN. "We're going to remember this forever."

Pictures of her in dad mode were posted to Facebook and shared thousands of times.

After pulling up to drop Elijah off at Sue Crouch Intermediate School last week and discovering the event, Ms Vasquez raced home to put the outfit together.

She says most of the dads supported her response.

"They thought it was really supportive and sweet. I did feel the energy of a few men who weren't as comfortable with it though."

Elijah was excited about whole thing and thanked his mother for the support.
