UK Skydiver dies after plummeting onto parked car

A 49-year-old British woman has died in hospital after her parachute didn't open in a skydive.

She rapidly fell toward the ground "spinning like a top" and tangled in the ropes of her parachute, before crashing onto the top of a parked car, witnesses told the Guardian.

The fatal accident happened on Saturday (local time) in Shotton Colliery, County Durham. The woman was airlifted to hospital from but died from her injuries.

The hatchback car was parked about 400 metres away from the skydiving centre at Shotton airfield.

She was an experienced skydiver, and was using her own equipment.
