France builds wall to keep migrants off trucks

While controversy rages around Donald Trump's threat to build a wall on the border with Mexico, France is wasting no time in building its own.

Workers have started erecting a wall along the four lanes of the motorway leading to Calais' ferry terminal, along which thousands of migrants have set up a camp.

A crane was deployed on site to lift the 4m-high cement panels designed to prevent migrants from blocking traffic and jumping onto lorries.

Despite the Mayor's opposition, the local prefecture decided to go ahead with the €2.7 million project funded by the UK, where thousands at the camp hope to reach.

Mayor Natacha Bouchart said there was no reason for it now the government had decided to destroy the neighbouring camp.
