Bunnings Australia shoplifter tells judge he asked out worker, escapes conviction

A Brisbane tradie has reportedly escaped conviction for shoplifting at Bunnings after telling a judge he was too busy asking out an employee.
Tim Alexander Copeman, 32, claims he accidentally slipped a $3 battery into his pocket after he locked eyes with a checkout attendant, Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported.
But unfortunately for Copeman, the battery never made it across the worker’s scanner, and he was charged with shoplifting after being caught by security staff while exiting the store.
The Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday fined the housing contractor NZ$522 and entered no conviction for unauthorised dealing with shop goods and two non-related drug matters.
Outside court, Copeman didn’t regret his actions, and told AAP the checkout girl said “yes” to his proposition for a date.
And better yet, a second date has been scheduled.
