The first artificial surf break of its kind in the US has opened in the central Texas town of Austin.

NLand Surf Park opened in October, and has been treating surfers to long barrel rides hundreds of miles from the ocean.

The manmade freshwater lagoon is filled by collected rainwater, making it a self-sustaining joyride in the dry Texas surroundings.

The pool offers three different types of breaks for different experiences - reef, inside and bay. The reef break can give top surfers a 35-second ride, NLand says.
