Donald Trump has been anointed the new President of the United States, bringing Barack Obama's eight years in charge to an end.
Some celebrated the occasion.
Others were bitterly disappointed.
But some of Mr Trump's opponents looked on the bright side - and seized the opportunity to immortalise the day in meme. Some accidentally.
"We are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, DC and giving it back to you, the people," Mr Trump told the crowd.
The crowd was mostly enthusiastic about this.
But as some pointed out, his words were suspiciously similar to another supervillain - The Dark Knight Rises' Bane.
Others noticed Michelle Obama's painful expressions as she met Melania Trump.
The people waited for a hero to arrive and save the day.
But none arrived.
The Inauguration was sparsely attended.
Perhaps as people made plans to abandon the country.
Others saw it as taking their country back.
But there was good news for anti-Trump protesters looking for movies to binge watch and dull the pain. Pretty much every film rates better than Mr Trump at the moment.
