United States President Donald Trump's right-hand woman is under fire for allegedly punching a man at a party just hours after Mr Trump's inauguration.

Kellyanne Conway - Mr Trump's presidential campaign manager last year and now his special counsel - reportedly intervened in a fight between two men at the Washington Convention Centre's Liberty Ball.

Fox News reporter Charles Gasparino, who was at the ball, said he saw Ms Conway throw "some mean punches" at one of the fighting men.

"Inside the ball we see a fight between two guys in tuxes and then suddenly out of nowhere came trump adviser Kellyanne Conway who began throwing some mean punches at one of the guys, [sic]" Mr Gasparino said on Facebook.

"Whole thing lasted a few mins no one was hurt except maybe the dude she smacked. Now I know why trump hired her, [sic]" he wrote.

Ms Conway is under Secret Service protection for other reasons, she says.

She has received death threats and been sent suspicious "white substances" in the mail she told Fox News' Sean Hannity.

"Because of what the press is doing now to me, I have Secret Service protection," she said.

"We have packages delivered to my house with white substances. That is a shame."

She is also currently under fire for comments suggesting White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer had presented "alternative facts" at the first official White House Press Conference.
