Pictures of a python vs possum encounter in New South Wales might make most people squirm, but the woman who took the photos was loving it.

Michelle Hunjak told 9News she and her sister Simone were out walking when they spotted the snake in the tree, mid-snack.

The reptile is believed to be a carpet python. They average 1.4 metres long and are not venomous.

The photos shows the snake with a mouthful, but large pythons can eat things seven times the size of their head so it wouldn't have been too much of a struggle.

It can take up to an hour for a snake to finish its meal and the sight drew in a huge crowd.
