Police are concerned Egg might suffer in the hot weather (Supplied/NSW Police)

Egg the pug was enjoying a late night stroll through Sydney. It had been a warm day, and the puppy was relishing the gentle breeze.

Suddenly he and his owner were approached with three men with knives.

They forced his owner to hand over his wallet and backpack - and then they took Egg.

Police say they have grave concerns for Egg's safety. They are worried that with Sydney's recent heat wave the thieves may not know how to properly look after the little pug.

Egg is described as a small black pug, possibly still wearing a red coiled collar around his neck.

They ask anyone with sightings to report this to police, and ask for Egg to be returned to the nearest police station.
