Great white shark spotted in Sydney canal

  • 13/02/2017

A juvenile shark has been filmed swimming ominously up a canal adjacent to Sydney Airport.

In the footage, the great white's distinctive fin can be seen as it emerges from under a bridge, more than six kilometres from the ocean.

It is unknown how long the shark has been out of the sea, as they require high internal salt levels, which become diluted if they remain in freshwater too long.

The video, which was posted on Facebook and was viewed 200,000 times in less than a day, becomes even scarier when the expert opinion that the shark's mother would have been nearby is taken into consideration.

The footage comes just over a month after a French kitesurfer was filmed surfing directly above a great white shark off the coast of Western Australia.
