Megatonnes of marijuana have been unearthed in a discarded English nuclear bunker.

Several thousand plants were found growing in the underground bunker in Chilmark, a village not far from Stonehenge.

Police raided the bunker at midnight Thursday morning (UK time), and after breaking through the nuclear blast doors they found 20 rooms full of weed, reports the BBC.

"Almost every single room had been converted for the wholesale production of cannabis plants, and there was a large amount of evidence of previous crops," said Det Insp Paul Franklin.

"I am convinced it is one of the largest crops ever discovered."

Three men were arrested on suspicion of cannabis production and human trafficking offences, and three others - including a 15-year-old - on suspicion of cannabis production.

"We would estimate the value of the crop at over £1 million," said Insp Franklin.

The bunker was built in the 1980s, and is no longer owned by the Ministry of Defence, reported The Telegraph.
