Sydney Uber driver found guilty of raping passenger

A 41-year-old Uber driver has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a female passenger he picked up from a nightclub in 2015.

Muhammad Naveed gave a lift to a woman in her early 20s who was coming out of a club at Sydney's Kings Cross, taking her down a side street and raping her.

Throughout the trial Naveed didn't deny having sex with the woman, but insisted it was consensual.

The New South Wales District Court earlier heard that the woman was extremely inebriated after drinking all afternoon and into the evening.

The jury heard the woman fell asleep and woke up to find Naveed on top of her. The prosecution told them she didn't have the strength to push Naveed off her, and also told him numerous times to "get off".

It took the jury just under three hours to find Naveed guilty of the offence, and he now awaits sentencing at Parramatta Local Court in May.
