Britain's oldest man has refused a birthday card from the Queen because Her Majesty always looks "so miserable".

Robert Weighton celebrated his 109th birthday this week - but it will be without Queen Elizabeth's traditional congratulations.

"I decided not to receive a card every year from the Queen, because I didn't want a huge collection of cards that I add to every year," he told The Telegraph.

"However, I did accept one from her two years ago, because it's the only one I'd seen that she was smiling on. In the rest of the cards she looked a bit miserable while on official duties."

Mr Weighton also told inews.co.uk that the 90-year-old monarch "often looks a bit bored" and "not happy at all", and he claimed he already has too many cards for his house.

Despite this, he insists he's a big fan of the Queen.

"I admire her enormously," he says of the 90-year-old royal. "I won't hear a word against her."
