A Florida woman paid for a young Mexican mum to be smuggled across the border into the US, holding her captive for two years while she tried to impregnate her with her boyfriend's sperm.

Esthela Clark, 47, admitted to promising to pay the 26-year-old victim US$3,000 to carry her baby, telling her the process would be overseen by doctors and once it was over she could return to her family.

Court documents obtained by People Magazine confirm that the Jacksonville woman faces 20 years in prison at her sentencing next month.

Ms Clark tried to inseminate the captive woman up to four times a day while she was ovulating with her boyfriend Rolando Castellanas' sperm.

She coldly abused the victim when the attempts didn't work, claiming the captive woman was "too fat" to get pregnant, The Mirror reported. Ms Clark fed her victim only cold beans from a can in an attempt to make her lose weight.

On other occasions she made her sleep in bleach, forced her to strip when she believed she was stealing and hit her with a metal stick.

"Clark isolated the victim from her family," a statement from federal prosecutors reads. "She also attempted to collect from the victim's family the cost she had paid to the 'coyotes,' with interest."

Allegedly, after nine months, Ms Clark gave up on impregnating her victim and instead forced her to clean her home and work at various businesses, according to investigators.

The Mirror reported a member of a local church saw the victim washing cars in cold weather with insufficient clothing and called the police, leading to Ms Clark's arrest.
