A suited-up Wall Street worker has been photographed simulating sex with a statue of little girl, erected to stand for gender equality.

The "Fearless Girl" is an act of political art by investment management firm State Street, which was installed on Wall Street to call for more gender diversity. The statue was installed last Tuesday to celebrate International Women's Day.

The statue has attracted many women and young girls posing with it.

But one man decided it would be funny to simulate having sex with the statue, in front of crowds of people.

The act was photographed by Alexis Kaloyanides and posted to social media, where it was shared more than 27,000 times.

According to the picture's caption, the man thrusted his hips in front of the statue as his friends watched.

"Almost as if out of central casting, some Wall Street finance broseph appeared and started humping the statue while his gross date rape-y friends laughed and cheered him on," Ms Kaloyanides wrote on Friday (local time).

"He pretended to have sex with the image of a little girl," she continued. "Douchebags like this are why we need feminism."
