Brutal fist-fight erupts on Southwest Airlines flight

Footage of a brutal punch-up on a flight has set the internet alight, marking yet another bad moment for US airlines following a string of negative headlines in recent months.

Cellphone video of the incident, which occurred as passengers prepared to disembark the flight from Dallas, Texas to Los Angeles, California on Sunday, shows the attack in its latter stages.

Chaze Cable, 37, can be seen landing a flurry of blows to another passenger's head as others swarm around him, attempting to halt the attack.

The fight was said to have involved three people, but it isn't known what prompted it.

One victim was left with a chipped tooth, gash on his nose and bruise on his left eye, according to police, while another sustained minor injuries - and Mr Cable has since been charged with two counts of misdemeanour battery, which he has pleaded not guilty to.

In a statement released by Southwest, the airline said they were "grateful to [their] employees" for reacting quickly to the situation and working to break up the fight.

"Our employees are our everyday heroes, and are trained to de-escalate conflict while delivering heartfelt hospitality," they said.

The video was captured by Twitter user Nick Krause, whose post has been retweeted hundreds of times.
