Scotsmen perform haka at NZ-mad couple's wedding

A group of 15 kilt-wearing Scots have performed a haka at a wedding in Loch Lomond, Scotland - a location more than 18,000 kilometres from our nearest shoreline.

The group, players at the same rugby club as groom Graeme Reid, assembled six weeks before the wedding to learn the traditional Maori ceremonial dance before performing it to guests on the day.

The bride, Alison Reid, told The Daily Record that the group would meet up to practise the haka "two or three times a week" - and said some of them had admitted to tearing up after rehearsals because they found it such an emotional experience.

Ms Reid had requested the haka especially, knowing that it was an important component of what makes the world's best rugby side, the All Blacks, perform at such a high level.

She said she knew it would be meaningful to husband-to-be Graeme, and would also contribute to what was another rugby-themed part of their wedding, which already had tickets and centrepieces inspired by the sport.

As well as being rugby fanatics, Graeme and Alison have a special affinity with New Zealand, having visited the country in 2011 for the Rugby World Cup and loving it so much they ended up staying to live here for a year.

They returned again in 2015, where Graeme then got down on one knee atop Mt Roy in Wanaka to ask her to marry him.
