A trainee police dog fired for being too friendly has been given his dream job.
Gavel the German shepherd lost his position after preferring to get belly rubs from strangers to sniffing out criminals.
But Gavel has landed on his paws, scoring a role as Queensland's official Vice-Regal Dog.
His new duties include welcoming guests and tour groups, and having an official presence on certain ceremonial occasions.
And Gavel seems to be taking his new role seriously.
