You may have noticed a new "pride" emoji on Facebook recently, in addition to the standard "like", "heart", "haha", "wow", "sad" and "angry" reactions.

The rainbow flag emoji will be available on the platform throughout June - pride month for the LGBTQ community.

"We believe in building a platform that supports all communities. So we're celebrating love and diversity this Pride by giving you a special reaction," Facebook wrote in a post on Saturday.

But before you can unlock the pride emoji and use it to react to posts and comments, there is a simple process you must follow:

1. Log into Facebook
2. Go to the LGBTQ@Facebook page and hit the "like" button
3. You're ready to spread rainbow pride across Facebook!

The rainbow flag, which symbolises pride for the LGBTQ community, was created in 1978 by Gilbert Baker, who passed away in March 2017.
