Two people have been killed and three others injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Germany early on Sunday morning (local time).

A gunman in the city of Konstanz opened fire at around 4:30am, German police said.

When shots were fired a number of those at the nightclub either ran out to escape, or hid themselves in panic.

One person was killed while others were injured, including the suspected shooter, after a gunfight with police. The gunman later died from his injuries.

One of those injured was a police officer, according to German police.

Police believe the gunman acted alone, but his motives aren't yet known.
