An Oregon woman has been sentenced for licking and groping a passenger on a Las Vegas to Portland flight.

Heidi McKinney, 27, touched the breasts and genitals of the 19-year-old woman sitting next to her on the Alaska Airlines flight in May last year.

McKinney was sentenced to eight months of home detention and three years on probation after pleading guilty to assault.

She was arrested after the plane landed in Portland on May 8, 2016. She had smuggled alcohol on board, and court documents say she tried to convince her victim to drink with her.

She licked her victim's ear, tried to kiss her and tried to place her hand on the victim's crotch three times, the court heard.

The defendant said McKinney put her hand on her chest and asked embarrassing personal questions.

The assistant attorney said McKinney showed "intent to humiliate and harass the victim".
