Alex Jones, Chelsea Clinton spar after 'tranny' Michelle Obama claim

Infamous conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has come up with one of his most mind-bogglingly farfetched claims yet - that former First Lady Michelle Obama is actually a man.

The host of far-right radio show Infowars told viewers that he had stumbled across "shock footage" that may provide the "final proof" that she has male genitalia, and that Michelle and Barack Obama are in a gay relationship together.

"I have nothing against trannies," he begins, "but we have famous photos of her which appear to show she has a large bulge in her pants."

"[Comedian] Joan Rivers said [Ms Obama was transgender] and died. She had dinner with the Obamas and she was all for it, saying it was great that Obama's gay and has a tranny wife."

He then went on to show an excerpt of some recently filmed video footage, in which he says Ms Obama looks as though she has something in her pants akin to a "rubber snake" or a "cucumber".

There is no evidence the latest product of Jones' fevered imagination is true.

But the outrageous theory was picked up by a number of mainstream media outlets - and even Chelsea Clinton latched onto it, calling Jones out on Twitter for the carelessness of what he'd said.

"Michelle Obama is everything this site [Infowars] will never be - honourable, brave, beloved, beautiful. Don't need to watch an awful video to know that," she wrote.

"I didn't visit the site or watch the video. Think we need to shine a light on the awfulness [and] expose it - without giving the awfulness clicks."

In response, Jones posted a follow-up video criticising Ms Clinton and a number of news organisations for misrepresenting what he'd said.

Jones also tried to strengthen the theory by claiming Barack Obama repeatedly referred to Michelle as Michael throughout his presidency - though a montage he'd cut only showed one definitive instance.
