A Californian woman has been left frightened after getting a "scary" letter for not tipping a pizza delivery man.

Lauren Ledford from California used Postmates, an Uber Eats-type app, to order pizza and says she assumed the US$4 tip was included in the fee.

A week later she found a "scary" letter on her doorstep, allegedly from the pizza delivery man, telling her to "not be cheap" and "joking" that he would rob her.

"If it turns out that delivery driver is me again, and you do not tip yet again, I'm probably going to rob you. I'm joking, but not really," the letter said.

"Who knows what a disgruntled delivery guy who can't afford to eat that day is capable of," The letter continued.

It's left Ms Ledford terrified for her safety.

"I am now terrified that this man could show up any day as he let me know," she said in a post on Facebook.

Ms Ledford said she contacted the company immediately, but didn't get a response until sections of the letter she posted on Facebook gained attention.

Now despite Postmates telling her they suspended the driver, and reporting the incident to police herself, she still feels unsafe in her own home.
