A three-year-old girl was shot dead at a house in western Sydney on Sunday night.

Emergency services were called to the home just after 8pm and found the toddler with a fatal gunshot wound to her neck.

A man inside the house reportedly shouted: "She's dead, she shot herself!" as neighbours raced to the scene after hearing a gunshot, 7 News reports.

It is believed that the girl's three young siblings were also in the house at the time.

Footage taken shortly after the incident shows a distraught man, thought to be the girl's father, rocking back and forth on the kerbside with his head in his hands.

A sobbing woman was taken into an ambulance, where witnesses say she screamed "I hate you!" and "Not my baby girl, not my baby girl!"

Investigations are continuing at the house, but no arrests have been made.
