US woman pulls gun on shopper during fight over notebook

A Detroit woman who pulled a gun on a fellow shopper during an argument over a notebook is facing criminal charges.

The argument, caught on camera by a bystander and shared widely on social media, erupted after two women simultaneously reached for the last notebook at a Michigan Walmart store.

Both feeling entitled to it, their argument soon became violent - one pulling the other's hair as they fought over the item.

But things got truly out of control when a 51-year-old, whose daughter was one of the women involved in the fracas, pulled out a firearm to protect her.

Detroit police officer Detective Scott Baetens told media she then warned the woman against attacking her daughter while aiming the gun at her, causing other Walmart shoppers to flee in terror.

Det Baetens confirmed a notebook was what started the skirmish.

"One girl was going to buy a notebook. There was one left, some pushing resulted. They began to argue who was the rightful purchaser of that notebook," he said.

It is not yet clear what charges the woman who pulled the gun out will face, but police have confirmed they are preparing charges.
