60,000 Dutch teachers perform haka

  • 09/10/2017

Tens of thousands of Dutch teachers have performed the haka in a protest for higher pay and better working conditions.

The teachers gathered at the Zuiderpark in the Hague on Thursday, with unions estimating 60,000 in attendance.

A video shows the teachers doing a basic haka, including the pūkana.

Local media called the "hilarious" performance a call to the minister and state secretary of education, rather than a call to the gods.

This is not the first time the Dutch have appropriated the haka.

In 2016, Dutch pop band De Alpenzusjes performed the ceremonial dance for their song Haka in a video that has gained more than 111,000 views.
