Reports of a shooting at the University of Southern California have been found to be a hoax.

Gunfire was reported but not confirmed at the university campus in California - and after a search, the Los Angeles Police Department says there was no attack.

The original reports of gunfire and a gunman on the USC campus are thought to have been made by a man who is mentally unwell.

USC earlier issued an urgent warning to students and staff members, urging them to seek shelter if they are on campus.

Officers searched one of the university's buildings, but found no gunman and ultimately determined that there was no shooting.
