An Australian diplomat has fallen to his death in New York after celebrating his country's historic same-sex marriage result.
Julian Simpson, 30, was a second secretary to the United Nations for Australia based in New York.
Following the 'Yes' result, Mr Simpson returned to his home with friends to get a view of the Empire State Building which was lit up in rainbow colours in solidarity with Australia.
According to 7 News, police say Mr Simpson was playing a game of "trust" with a friend on the rooftop of the building before he fell.
He was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs said it was providing consular assistance to the family.
