A jockey has been suspended after violently punching a horse as cameras rolled before a race in Port Lincoln, Australia.

Dylan Caboche has been suspended for two weeks, after he punched his horse for bucking before entering the barriers.

Video shows Mr Caboche, 22, dismounting his ride after his horse, Shes Reneldasgirl, reared and hit it in the stomach.

Mr Caboche will be banned from November 17 to December 1. He could miss up to 30 rides during his suspension.

"TRSA does not condone and will not tolerate such behaviour and it is hoped this penalty, which will remain on the rider's record and will impact his earning ability, will send a strong signal to others," said a spokesperson of Thoroughbred Racing South Australia.

The horse finished eighth overall in the race.
