Video has emerged of a North Korean soldier’s dramatic escape across the border.
In footage released by the United Nations, the man can be seen speeding down a road in a jeep while other soldiers chase him. He crashed the vehicle near the official line dividing North and South Korea and continued his escape on foot.
North Korean soldiers sprint after the man, shooting him several times. One ran across the border but quickly doubled back. The injured defector can be seen collapsing against a wall and being dragged to safety by South Korean soldiers.
A spokesman for the United Nations command told reporters that North Korea had violated the Korean War armistice agreement by firing across and physically crossing the border in pursuit of the soldier.
The North Korean government has not responded to the accusation.
